Was Thomas Merton’s death in Thailand in 1968 really an accident? This question intrigues Rachel Crockett, the Nashville teenager who is struggling to regain a relationship with her alcoholic father, Trey. The celebrated Trappist monk/author becomes an unexpected link between them, leading Rachel on a dangerous quest.

Blackmail and the threatened loss of his psychiatrist’s license bring Trey to a personal crisis. An international business cartel with Japanese and Mexican connections (“The Delores Project”) is determined to see Ft. Campbell, Kentucky closed. It happens that their major obstacle is Senator Jonas Crockett, Trey’s uncle. Trey is embroiled up to his neck, and Rachel comes to his aid.

Mexican drug smuggling vs. President Clinton’s DEA; an unexpected connection between the Japanese industrialist and Merton; sinister tactics by members of the Delores team. Add to this web the startling revelations about Merton’s death by his dying friend at the Abbey of Gethsemani.
